Sniffles Abound

I thought I had avoided my usual post-travel malady, but after a week of being home a sore throat and a bad case of the sniffles got the better of me.  The common cold never seems to come at a good time and though aggravating, I have invariably been able to take a couple days off of my regular life and sleep it off . Those days have all but disappeared.  The first symptoms surfaced over seven days ago and I still wake up in the mornings feeling as if I just took a sleeping pill.  The aftermath of Mommy O being sick has been pretty standard: everyone else is sick now too.  Baby O came first-his ailments seemed to manifest themselves typically between the hours of two and three in the morning.  Boy O woke up yesterday with a headache and major crankiness.  To top it all off, I heard Daddy O stifle a sniffle yesterday evening.  Two on the upswing and two more to go I guess.

Signing off for now to blow my nose and wipe two more...

  1. So, I'm unclear about this.... Are you able to take a couple days off and sleep this off like any sensible girl should? I'm guessing those days are seeming very far away right now.
We all three got the flu in all its glory on the same day. Three people. One toilet. Not pretty. It was our first experience with being useless with illness and having another sick human to take care of, i.e. a baby. We have made it out the other side and y'all will too but I feel for you family O.
Hopefully Baby O doesn't take any cues from our son who goes on nap and sleep strike at first sign of illness. You and I could start an ongoing online Scrabble game at the 2am hour.
Feel better lady. And until Daddy O starts outright hacking, he's on and your off night duty, right?

  2. So I went back in to make it crystal clear: those days are gone-I'm exhausted and even though (as far as colds go) it wasn't that extreme, it has taken me way more time to recover than before.

No days off for me-these are times that I wish MY mom were here. I know she would make me a hot toddy, make me sleep and would know how to keep my boys quiet at the same time....(did I ever thank you for that Mom?)

And about night duty-this is where 'regrouping' comes in. We tend to disagree about how to handle waking up in the middle of the night. He prefers the 'cry it out' method and I can't take the crying. I can't sleep if there is crying and even when it stops, I am unable to go back to sleep. So now, I'm more prone to him sleeping on my chest in the guest bed-he can scream bloody murder for hours if I put him back in his crib(and that does no one any good). The thing is-he's a great little sleeper when he's not sick and teething....so I'm hoping it won't become a habit. Oh, well-I'm just going with my gut on this one-I don't know if it's the right thing or not. Ask me in about 10 years and we'll see if it's still an issue :)
I think his top canines look like they are popping through...maybe I'll get some sleep in a few months.

  3. You poor mama. What is bad is when we can't function, all heck brakes lose. That's the worse when we are sick. Hoping the whole family is feeling better soon. Since my little ones came home I can't never catch a breat either. It really does go around until everyone has had it.

  4. You attribute way too many superpowers to your Mom.

  5. I never underestimate the power of a good hot toddy.
